After the identity card, it’s now the turn of the driving license to go digital, thanks to the France Identité application. This technological breakthrough promises to make control easier and more secure, combat usurpation and simplify our daily lives. What’s more, the digital driving license will be valid throughout Europe, facilitating the free movement of drivers.
A paperless driver’s license soon
Thanks to France Identité, it will soon be possible to have your driver’s license dematerialized directly in the application, alongside your identity card. The application will make it easy to present your driving license in digital format during an inspection. What’s more, it will be possible to integrate this information into a single-use receipt for all online procedures.
This innovation will be tested on an experimental basis from September 2023 in three départements: Rhône, Hauts-de-Seine and Eure-et-Loir. Subsequently, this functionality will be extended to the whole country from early 2024.
What are the objectives?
Firstly, it aims to limit the risk of loss or theft of the physical license. With it dematerialized on your application, you won’t have to worry about forgetting or losing it. Secondly, it saves time in the event of a roadside check by the police, or when renting a vehicle. Simply present your digital license quickly and easily. What’s more, this will enable you to carry out online procedures without disclosing all your data. Last but not least, this initiative will help to combat fraud, particularly in the context of online procedures, by making information more secure.
The dematerialization of driving licenses thanks to France Identité is a major step forward that will simplify administrative procedures and offer greater security for users. Soon, a simple click on your smartphone will be all you need to present your driving license.
